Primary Care Physician in Mountain View, CA
Having spent over 20 years as a family medicine practitioner, Dr. Joyce Tatelman brings a wealth of experience to her role as your family’s go-to primary care doctor. She also received fellowship training in geriatrics, making her uniquely qualified to treat the special medical concerns of older adults.
Whether your teen requires a physical exam for school or sports, you are due for an annual physical, you have an acute illness, or you or a loved one live with a chronic condition, Dr. Tatelman will provide personalized medical care for you and your family members, including traditional or holistic treatment tailored to your specific needs.
Preventive Care
As your primary care physician, Dr. Tatelman will get to know you and your family medical history so she can assess your risk of illness or chronic disease, perform appropriate screenings, and develop a care plan to prevent these conditions.
She will not only educate you about disease prevention and maintaining your health, but she will also oversee your wellness care. That includes an annual physical exam (or Medicare annual wellness visit for seniors) to discuss any new developments or changes in your health history from the previous year and have blood drawn for lab tests.
These exams are an important baseline for preventing disease or detecting a problem in its earliest stages. They enable Dr. Tatelman to recognize and evaluate any new and unusual symptoms, diagnose an emerging medical condition, and provide prompt treatment or referral to a specialist if necessary.
In many cases, chronic illness is brought on or exacerbated by unhealthy lifestyle choices such as poor nutrition, lack of exercise, smoking, or excessive drinking. Dr. Tatelman can provide nutritional counseling and weight loss help, as well as suggest the best forms of exercise for your particular fitness level.
Dr. Tatelman will address not only your physical needs, but your mental and emotional ones, as well. Stress is often a major factor for many people, leading to anxiety or depression, and Dr. Tatelman can offer stress relief techniques or refer you to a mental health counselor, if necessary, to help improve your overall well-being.
Dr. Tatelman also offers immunizations for you and your family members, including flu, Tdap and Td boosters, hepatitis A and B, MMR, HPV, shingles, and pneumonia, as well as vaccines for those planning to travel abroad.
School and Sports Physicals
If your teen requires a physical for school or sports, Dr. Tatelman can perform the exam and complete the necessary paperwork. Schools often require students to have a physical to ensure they are up-to-date on immunizations. Your child will need a sports physical to ensure that he or she is healthy enough to participate in organized sports.
Acute Care/Sick Visits
Whether you have the flu or strep throat, an ear infection or urinary tract infection, Dr. Tatelman can diagnose your illness and prescribe appropriate medication. Plus, if you’re ill and need to be seen immediately, Dr. Tatelman can fit you in for a same-day appointment.
Geriatrics and Chronic Disease Management
Dr. Tatelman is fellowship trained in geriatrics, which means she specializes in caring for the medical needs of older adults, who often suffer from one or more chronic conditions. As a geriatrician, Dr. Tatelman emphasizes preventive care and provides personalized, ongoing care for chronic conditions such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and others.
